Harvey Kaye
Harvey began
his career in Jewish education while still a college student,
teaching Hebrew at Mt. Zion Temple in St. Paul, Minnesota.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree
in elementary education, Harvey became Educational Director at
Temple Israel in Memphis, Tennessee, where he served for 8
years. During his tenure he earned a Masters Degree in
Educational administration at Memphis State University.
Harvey was the Program Director for the URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp
in Utica, Mississippi during its first 3 summers. He was
twice a national officer of the National Association of Temple
Educators (N.A.T.E.) and won a national award for his camp
programs.
Drawn to Phoenix by a position as Director of Education for
Congregation Beth Israel, Harvey served there for 4 years.
Subsequently, Harvey taught Hebrew and Judaica classes at Temple
Solel for 20 years, and joined the faculty of Temple Chai in
2001.
Harvey is married to Julia, who teaches at our Early Childhood
Center and in our Religious School as well. The have 3
grown children and 5 grandchildren.
